To gift or not to gift, that is the question.

Hello dear readers! First, I want to thank everyone who already joined my first-ever blog giveaway! All your comments about the blog are very much appreciated. For those who want to join, click here.

Anyway, It's the season of gift-giving again! I have been debating with myself lately (Yes, I do that.) about giving gifts. We all have heard of "It's the thought that counts" right? But if you were the giver and not the receiver, do you really give gifts because you thought of that person or just because of kahiyaan? We all know that hiya (shame) plays a big part in our Filipino culture.

Personally, I would rather not give a gift if I am out of budget or if  I don't feel like it. I do not like giving gifts because I am supposed to. I would like to give because I want to. I would rather give a heartfelt letter or card than give someone something that I know s/he will not appreciate or will not make use of.

One more thing, are you guys in favor of recycling gifts?  I wonder what you guys think.Share your thoughts!

  1. we have the same feelings, i want to give gifts because of affection and not because of obligation. if i don't have money, i won't give gifts, ayaw ko naman mangutang para lang may mabigay. =)

about recycling gifts, ok lang siguro, be sure lang na hindi magkakilala yung nagbigay at pagbibigyan. hehe!

  2. I recycle gifts! I think it's just ok to recycle specially if you won't be needing that gift and you think other people would appreciate it. Just make sure di mo maibibigay yung gift na yun sa taong nagbigay sayo. It happened to me. I was given a recycled gift at regalo ko yung naibigay sakin. lol!

  3. @michi: "if i don't have money, i won't give gifts, ayaw ko naman mangutang para lang may mabigay." -- That makes perfect sense, dear. We should be practical these days! :)

  4. I like giving gifts but of course, I like receiving even more. I agree that if you don't have enough budget, do not pressure yourself to buy expensive gifts. Meron namang magaganda na mura. You just need to fins out kung anong hilig ng pagbibigyan mo. I try to be creative every Christmas. I'm making beaded accessories at ibibigay ko sa mga taong alam kong ma-appreciate yon.

I don't recycle gifts. Appreciative naman ako. Minsan kahit ang binigay di ko kailangan tinatago ko pa din. Sentimental kasi ako. hehe..I'll check out your give away. :)

  5. Me too! For the last two years, I try to personalize my gifts, ngayon lang ako huli sa aking Christmas shopping.

Haha. Ganyan din ako dati, but when I left home at nagrerent na lang ako, I can't afford to have too many stuff. So I have to let some things go....

  6. I agree with you. Back in my grade school days, kahit di ko ka-close binibigyan ko ng gift especially those na binibigyan din ako. But as I grew older, pakonti na ng pakonti yung binibigyan ko. I just give nalang to those I really want to gift. :) And if I'm out of budget, I try to make personalized gifts.

As for gift recycling, I think i'll just do this if the person i'll be giving the gift to really wants that particular thing, and of course, if I'm good without it.. :) But most of the time, I keep gifts kahit yung mga di ko masyado type.. :)

Speaking of gifts, I also have a giveaway! hehe.. Hope you can take a quick peek, or join if you like. Thanks!
